The contract has just been let, and work is just starting. on the construction of a private school designed to accom- modate the children of the Members of the Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange. The building itself will be L-shaped provid- ing a substantial-sized playground in the quadrangle between the two wings. The main facade, the east wing facing Link Road wherein most of the class rooms are placed, is mainly window area with broad horizontal planes emphasized by vertical lines between window area which, with the curved wall of the staircase hall set in the north-east angle of the building and relieved only by a small circular window at each floor, forms the main mass in the building design,
The building site being set on a slope allows of a base- ment at the north side of the building in which the main cloakroom, pupils' and teachers' dining rooms, pantry, kitchen and servants' rooms are placed.
The ground floor itself contains the general and head- master's offices, a large playroom in the main wing, and the assembly hall 48′0′′ X 27′6′′ occupies the whole north wing.
The first, second and third floors each contain five class rooms, a staff room and two store rooms.
Lavatories and washrooms for boys and girls are provided on each floor, whilst on the ground floor, as part of the playroom, separate boys' and girls' changing rooms are provided, equipped with two showers, two handbasins and a W.C.
The building is of the conventional reinforced concrete frame panelled with brick, the floor slabs being of solid beam and slab construction while the roof is a hollow tile reinforced concrete slab.
Precast terrazzo treads, risers and landings are provided to main staircase and stairhall, with 12" skirtings. 2′′ X 5 8′′ anti-slip carborundum strips protect all treads.
Attractive precast terrazzo tiling is being laid to the front entrance in accordance with the Architects' drawings. All other floors are of coloured cement tiles, 4′′ X 4′′, locally made, set in 1:3 cement mortar except for the floors to kitchen, servants' rooms, secondary staircase entrance and walks around the building.
Local made rough textured facing tiles laid in cement mortar and with joints in white cement will enliven the appearance of the exterior of the building. These tiles will be emphasized by areas of stucco, composed of one part cement, one part hydrated lime and six parts sand, reduced tu a textured finish.

The steel windows are of British manufacture. The main entrance door and sliding folding door to hall will be in teak, the side entrance door, sliding folding door to office, store and main stairhall doors in basement in 2′′ solid hardwood; class rooms, staff rooms, playroom, office, changing room, lavatory. cloakroom and dining rooms will all be of 13′′ machine pressed birch flush doors manufactured by the Hong Kong Plywood Manufacturing Co.

Needless to say, ample light and ventilation has been provided throughout the building by a very generous propor- tioning and positioning of the windows, and the number and arrangement of class rooms and the conveniences provided for the comfort of pupils and staff will undoubtedly make this a model of school construction.
