Architects'
annual
meeting
THE possibility that established architectural standards might flounder following the emergence of newly independent nations around the world was foreshadowed by the retiring president of the Hong Kong Society of Architects. Mr. G.C. Dovey. at the Society's annual meeting at the end of last month.
Mr. Dovey said that in spite of the boundaries. erection of political architects sought to transcend these barriers in solving their problems.
common
However, he said. architects in these new countries who were pre- viously linked to the Royal Institute of British Architects. who generally shared English as a
a common lan- guage and whose concept of architec tural practice and professional ethics were similar in outlook. wanted to maintain some form of association with the Institute.
Mr. Dovey made special reference to the question of the Society join- ing the new Commonwealth Associa tion of Architects. explaining that the idea originated at the R.L.B.A.
He said the new Association would endeavour to establish standards of conduct qualification, professional and extend a certain amount of technical aid.
Mr. Dovey thanked the several speakers who gave their opinions on the matter of joining, and said that the incoming Council would take their tone of approval into account.
