Messrs Booty and Edwards com- menced their practice in Singapore in 1918. Subsequently, they were responsible for many of the existing buildings in Singapore, Ceylon and Malaya. A few years before the 1939-45 war they were joined by Mr. A. O. Coltinan who had been a senior assistant for many years.
In 1940 Edwards retired. Mr. Coltman was eventually interned by the Japanese occupation forces and Booty was never seen or heard of after the invasion of Malaya. He is presumed to have died attempting to
escape.
Mr. Coltman recommenced the practice in 1946. The firm has since flourished and now has offices in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Brunei Town and Jesselton In 1957 Mr. C. H. R. Bailey and Mr. K. Loo joined Mr. Coltman as partners. During 1960 it was decided that the time had come to widen the firm's interests to London, particularly as many new clients were international in their organisation and had their headquarters there. This was done in December 1960.
Partner in charge of the London office is Stanley P. Merer, Dip. Arch., F.R.I.B.A.
Mr. Merer was in private practice in the United Kingdom before he joined the P.W.D. Malaya in 1953. On leaving Government service in 1957 he joined the Kuala Lumpur office where he was engaged on the large projects before the London large projects.
