Working closely with Harriman Realty Co., Ltd. all throughout the project, Signor Ponti was able to express successfully the functions of the building in its façade.
The front wall of the eight upper office floors, although comparatively solid in appearance and apparently free from the side walls, seems to float weightlessly over the glass cur- tain front of the store below.
By placing the glass of the hexa gonal windows of the office floors almost on the same plane as the sur rounding wall, Signor Ponti has obtained a 'single panel' effect which he sought to achieve for that element of his design.
One of the interesting features of the façade is the use of special

ceramic tiles which reflect the light and appear to change in brilliancy throughout the day with the angle of the sun. The titles were specially chosen by Signor Ponti in Italy. Another interesting feature is the contrast in the form of the main wall of the upper floors and the curtain wall of the store, which are made to taper in opposite directions.
The aluminium sections used throughout in this building were also designed specially and only for this project by Signor Ponti, and the moulds were subsequently destroyed by the suppliers.
