these dining rooms has a flexible arrangement for subdivision with sliding screens. Linking these two side galleries are a mezzanine floor at the front of the building and a promenade at the rear.
Throughout the
the building, Mr. Shipley has adopted a neutral colour scheme, with the only strong colours appearing in the furnishings, fabrics and decorative plants.
To set the seal on the distinctive appearance of his design, he has finished the exterior of both concouse and tower block in a bold sculptural cladding of locally moulded pre-cast concrete. Serving as a sunscreen for the heat-absorbing. light-diffusing glass. the cladding comes in sections. 11 feet high and 40 inches wide. forming a tracery which, though of massive proportions, is delicately honeycombed in appearance.
