MODERN

CHINESE

PRIVATE RESIDENCE

ARCHITECTURE

ON STUBBS ROAD

00 1

General View of the Exterior from Stubbs Road.

Front and Rear Elevations from the Architects' Model.

We have several times in the past had the

pleasure of describing houses built in Hong

Kong which were designed by Chinese archi-

tects and which combined all modern precepts

of Western architecture in a building yet still

retaining all the essential features of typical

Chinese style.

In this issue we have the privilege of illus-

trating a sumptuous private residence for Dr.

Shum Yat Cho on Stubbs Road which was

designed by Mr. N. C. Chan of the Office of A.

R. F. Raven.

Externally, the building has every appear-

ance, on a much larger and more elaborate scale of course, of a typical residence for a mandarin

or other important Chinese official to be found

throughout the interior of China untouched as

yet by the influence of Western architecture.
