Country-going people demand air, space, sunshine and informality. They can get all this economically in the ingenious modern summer cottage designed by Antonin Raymond for a family of two parents, two children and guests.

"Open house" might well be the name of the cottage. Mr. Raymond has adapted to modern American life ideas derived from the East where he practised for years. Everywhere there are sliding doors and sliding windows. Push them all back and you're living outside while inside. The exterior walls melt away, leaving you free to dangle your feet over the low, long verandah-free to throw back your head and breathe deeply-all while you're safe under the shelter of the roof. And the interior walls also slide back, giving you a vista from one end of the house to the other.

And just as easily as the walls slide open, so do they slide shut and lock in place and your house is safe against a sudden storm or the coming winter. Study carefully Mr. Raymond's ideas as shown in his plans and sketches.
