There is now in course of construction on Macdonnell Road block of sumptious flats. The planning of this building was completed about over a year ago, but for various reasons the starting of construction work was delayed until a few weeks ago. Rapid progress, however, is now being made, and the building will be completed ready for occupation by the end of December 1938. The site is an ideal one, commanding, as it does, a view of the entire harbour from the North East to North West frontage, and having wooded slopes to the South.

The building has been designed to occupy the front of the site, which slopes down towards Macdonnell Road, leaving a large garden and drive-way between the main entrance and the hillsides.

A new concrete motor approach road is being constructed to permit direct access by car to the entrance to the building.

All floors are served by an automatic pushbutton- operated Elevator.

These flats throughout are designed to satisfy the most

exacting requirements of the ever increasing numbers of flat dwellers. As far as possible, furniture has been built into the rooms; dressing rooms, with drawers and hanging closets are provided to bedrooms, while bookshelves, telephone shelves and cupboards, dining room sideboards, etc. are all incorporated in the rooms themselves. The planning of these flats has been very carefully thought out, all the main rooms commanding a view of the harbour, while to conform to the slope of the site, a lower ground floor is incorporated below the entrance level, consisting of two small flats occupying the North side of the building only. The two lower ground floor flats are of two and three rooms, the typical floors, two four-room flats each, and the top floor, two three-room Penthouses with large roof gardens.
