GARDEN CITY DEVELOPMENT

The Hong Kong Engineering & Construction Company's Enterprise in Kowloon,

Views of the Garden City Project-Above: Looking along Braga Circuit Below: Buildings in course of erection on Kadoorie Avenue,

Just about six years ago a huge hilly area bounded by Waterloo Road, Prince Edward Road and Argyle Street was purchased by the Hong Kong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., from the Govern- ment and at a formal ceremony attended by His Excellency, the Governor, and many distinguished members of the Colony, the Hon. Mr. J. P. Braga, O.B.E., Managing Director of the Company, outlined the develop- ment conceived by him for this section of the Mainland.

Since then, in spite of the period of unprecedented depression which overtook the Colony shortly afterwards, the work of levelling the site and forming the lots progressed steadily and the area as it is to-day has undoubtedly become one of the most desirable residential districts in the Colony. The manner in which the lots have been laid out so as to take the fullest advantage of the natural varying levels of the site deserves our highest commendation, and has resulted in the trans- formation of an ugly hilly protuberance into a beautiful and interesting estate that compares most favourably with any development in any part of the world.
