All domestic accommodation is of the one-room flat type, with bal- cony or corridor access. Each flat is self-contained with its own kit- chen. toilet and drying verandah.

They will be light, airy and well- ventilated, and have easy access to refuse chutes which will have collec- tion chambers at ground floor level.

Site plan for So Uk and typical flat designs and flat arrangement plans were given in the Hong Kong and Far East Builder Vol. 13 No. 1.

Foundations to Blocks P.Q. and R. are by Gammon (Hong Kong) Ltd.. using 1110 16-inch Colcrete piles.

Lift installations in Blocks A. B. C. D and M are by China Engineers Ltd.

The Shires Lynx high level cis- terns fitted in some blocks have special fittings to guard against cor- rosion from the sea water used and are supplied by L. Rondon and Co. (H.K.) Ltd.

Among other materials used are Durocrete waterproof cement paint, Duroseal silicone water repellant, Duro primers, synthetic enamelsand undercosts, and Duro Rooftex sym- thetic emulsion flat wall finish.

JAPANESE ARCHITECTURE FOR CANBERRA - A new residence 10r the Japanese Ambassador, to be built in Canberra this year, will incorporate elements of the Shinden and Shoin styles which dominated Japanese architecture in the 10th and 13th centuries.

Features will include the charac teristic structure of the flat roof. large window space, surrounding railed terrace, and parts of pillars and beams exposed on the exterior of the building.
