URING the course of our work
ING we have had many opportunit- ies to visit, new dwellings and re- sidential buildings of many descrip- tions, but seldom has it been such a privilege and pleasure to go through a new residence as we experienced when we visited Mr. Robert Yu's residence on R.B.L. 601 overlooking Deep Water Bay. The architect is Mr. Eric Cumine and we not only compliment him on the superlative effects which he has achieved but we congratulate the owner on the possession of an outstanding resid- ence and a beautiful home.
The building is a bungalow located at the foot of Deep Water Bay Road just above the parking place for members of the Golf Club.

of its length, it, at first sight, appears to be lower in height than it actually is, and in order to counteract this effect the architect has built up the living room chimney, which is placed off the central entrance, into a tower effect, thus dividing the building and reducing its apparent length.
The site had to be formed from a rather steep hillside and in order to reduce unsightly cuttings and to keep the position of the building well to the front of the area the architect raised the floor level above the approach road by means of a retaining wall into which the garage has been set. This retaining wall has been left in its natural granite finish and contrasts neatly with the rendered finish of the structure above
Two views of the interior from the entrance hall. Note the bar arrangement on the left and the position of the wrought iron grille work on the right.
