The principal conditions to be complied with in deciding the general planning of the building consisted of a desire to face all principal rooms in roughly northerly direction, and the attain- ment of a traditional feeling by a nearly symmetrical arrangement of the accommodation.

The dining room and sitting room are planned on either side of a hall running from the entrance front. through to the garden verandah, with both these principal rooms opening on to the verandah and the garden, giving a circulating zone for groups of guests and visitors. On the north-west side of the ground floor is a study opening off the hall, with a private verandah leading to a terrace and the garden. To one side of the hall is a curving staircase giving access to the first floor where there are three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, a dressing room to be used as an occasional bedroom, and
