FANLING LUTHERAN SCHOOL (From page 106.)

An open passageway gives ready access to all rooms and allows plenty of ventilation and entry of light.

The 275 feet long school consists of a two storeyed classroom and la- boratory wing adjoining a one storey assembly hall wing. The main stair- case and all toilets are housed in a short rear wing.

Total cost of construction, includ- ing furniture, was $733,000 about $2.05 a cubic foot.

Drainage presented a problem as there was no sewerage drains. Two septic tanks with two large filters had to be installed. Each reinforced con- crete filter measures 60 ft. x 12 ft. x 12 ft. Together they cost $43,000, about six per cent of the cost of the school.

General contractor for the project was the Chung Chow Construction

MALAYSIAN CONFERENCE

MALAYSIAN architects, at a three day conference in Singa- pore last month, decided to initiate action to ensure that the training of architects included adequate ground- ing in economics, sociology and the basis of contractual practice.

It also recommended that adequate laboratory facilities be created to en- able research into tropical design.
