The site is in a central and dense- ly populated area and occupies an area of approximately 90.600 square feet. It is within 14 miles of the town centre and along a major road and is casily accessible from the town centre and other parts of Singapore. Piling work has begun and the building is expected to be completed at the end of 1962.

The project comprises three mas- sive blocks linked together with shops. shopping arcade and land- scaped courts at ground level. The main and central block is 18 storeys high and the two subsidiary blocks on either side of this main block are of 10 storeys.

The aim is to provide 480 housing units and an attractive and con- venient shopping centre with 39 shops grouped in a pleasant arcade.

Based on contemporary ideas of shopping centre design, this centre will have such attractions as ample parking provision for shoppers. restful landscapes, paved arcades. open courts, children's playground, restaurants and cafes for shoppers to relax and also ample open areas for circulation.

The rentable shop and office spaces here will be attractive for department stores, business houses, professional suites, banks or in- surance firms, restaurants and cafes.

The 480 dwelling units will house some 4.000 people. There will be
