College. Causeway Bay, Hong Kong which was founded in 1861, is being marked by two notable additions to the school buildings.

The Old Boys' Association has presented a memorial hall, now com- plete and to be opened shortly, and the Hong Kong Government Educa- tion Department is putting up a science block. This science block will adjoin the memorial hall and connect it with the existing school buildings, forming a quadran- gle within the school precincts. Architect for both additions is Mr. Ju Poh Chiu. of Iu and Company.

Idea of the memorial hall was first suggested in 1950 by Mr. T. R. Rowell, then Director of Education, when at a school speech day he told the old boys that they ought to do something for their old school. The Association quickly got to work, and in February of this year, Mr. H. N. laid the foundation stone. The hall

is on Crown land and the Govern- ment has also contributed towards the cost of nearly $400.000.

Apart from a clubroom with kit chen and small office on the ground floor, which will be used as a social headquarters for the Old Boys' As sociation, the whole of the memorial hall is given over to new amenities for the school. The club room OC cupies part of the ground floor and

opens on to a terrace.

The rest of the ground floor is oc- cupied by a gymnasium, which can also he used as a badmintion court and rises the whole height of the two storey building. On the rest of the first floor is a library. librarian's office. a music room, a Scout room and photographic dark rooms. A vertical panel in glass mosaic marks the east elevation which is otherwise in terazzo. The whole building is in Williamson, principal of the College. reinforced concrete.

The gymnasium is floored with one inch thick and three inch wide teak strips, not less than ten feet in length, the whole resting on rubber floor clips to give resilience without too much spring. Equipment for the gymnasium is supplied by H. Hunt and Son Ltd., of Liverpool. The cost of the gymnasium equipment is not included in the building cost.
