BEAUTY IN STONEWORK

The photographs published on this page are of the mausoleum for His Highness, the late Sultan of Selangor. Unfortunately, we were not supplied with any informa. tion concerning design or structural details, but it is obviously a strikingly beautiful structure, designed in conformity with the highest traditions of the East and incorporating elements and motifs in keeping with the dignity and splendour of the late potentate.

The tomb is located at Klang, and we assume it is placed in the midst of a wide park area, which provides

a splendid setting to enhance its beauty.

The material used is reconstructed stone, intricately carved and wrought. Those who are familiar with the importance normally given to this type of structure will appreciate the infinite amount of patience and skill required to bring out the delicate and involved ornamentation in the stonework, and great credit must be given to the Government Architect of the Federation who was responsible for the design, and Mr. R. E. Nolly, who carried out this beautiful reconstructed stonework.
