Elsewhere in these pages we describe one of the many small subsidiary buildings required by the Cable & Wireless. Ltd., to assist in the operation and maintenance of their important communication system. At Hunghom. on the area of ground reserved for the wireless station of Radio Hong Kong, Cable & Wireless Ltd. erected a short time ago, a two- storey building to the plans of the architect, Mr. Geo. W. Grey.

This building was erected for the Lines Department to whom is entrusted the upkeep of Government land lines.

The principal purpose for which this building was erected was for storing materials and equipment and as staff quarters. but there is also provided on the ground floor a carpenter's and paint shop and an instrument repair shop. The foreman and technician's office is attached to the latter shop, while the officer in charge has a private office adjacent to it.

The upper floor is designed as living quarters for the officer in charge of the installation, and comprises a large living room, with a smaller dining room opening directly onto it. The arrangement of these two rooms admits of the formation of a very large open terrace facing to the east and south. from which a view of the harbour and the island of Hong Kong is obtained. Of the two bedrooms which complete the amenities, the main bedroom has a sleeping terrace almost as large as the living room one. The usual services include a separate laundry and drying room, with ample cupboard and boxroom space, the whole forming a residence which, we feel sure, the occupants fully appreciate.
