levels. Possible future extension of the Club has involved planning the Bowling Alley Wing, which is constructed of reinforced concrete lid on brick walling, to take a further storey, while the reinforced concrete columns of the Squash Court wing are designed to take two further storeys. The roof over this wing will for the present be laid out as a lawn. It was essential in the first floor Lounge that there be no internal columns, and as little obstruction to the window area as possible. The room is, therefore, roofed with a reinforced concrete saucer dome, two inches thick in the centre, increasing to four inches thick at the springing, while the load is carried down to the apron beam under the windows by the mul- tions. Over the dome are stoolings giving insulation to the ceiling below and making the roof available for walk- ing and observation.

On the ground floor it was necessary that there should be no obstructing columns on the Verandahs, so that the weight of the dome and outer ring of floor of the first floor Lounge is cantilevered from piers between the French windows of the ground floor Lounge. The semi- circular Terrace over the Bar Verandah is cantilevered for the same reason.

The building will be finished externally in a white Stipplecrete waterproofed cement plaster above the granite base formed by the old magazines. Internally, the Changing Rooms and Squash Courts are being floored with teak parquet, while the Bowling Alleys will be specially laid in supa wood. The floors of Showers, Lavatories and Cloak Rooms, Entrance Halls and Main Staircase will be laid in terrazzo slabs, while the ground floor Lounge will have a terrazzo floor divided by metal strips in the form of a compass card. The first floor Lounge, Bar, Library and Committee Room will have cork tile floors. Plate glass will be used for glazing all the windows in the two Lounges and Bar. Although free from the danger of flying tiles, considerable precaution will have to be taken against typhoon damage.

No services are available on the island, and arrange- ments are being made by the Club to lay their own services for fresh water, electrical power and telephone, from the public and company supplies at the end of Percival Street.

Construction is now well under way and it is hoped to have the two wings available for use by October, and the building completed by the end of the year.
