RAPID DEVELOPMENT IN CAUSEWAY BAY
With the new Causeway Bay Road nearing completion, development along King's Road, which is now proceeding at a rapid pace, is bound to receive additional impetus. Photo- graphs on this page, taken a short time ago, illustrate the types of buildings favoured for this district.
The two photographs below graphically illustrate the en- croachment of squatters' settlements on to main residential and business districts, and the necessity of steps being taken without further delay for the elimination of these unsightly and dangerous colonies. If, as is argued, provision is to be made for the legitimate residents who, by force of cir- cumstances, have no alternative but to participate in these settlements, then provision should be made for them in areas where proper controls can be instituted and where their pre- sence will not constitute a nuisance.
We understand that the Hong Kong Government are now taking vigorous steps in this connection.
