Summary of Progress for November & December 1948
and January 1949.
Leighton Hill Flat-Although all the tenants had moved in by the beginning of November, work during this period consisted of completion of the installation of the lifts, clearing of the site, and installation of Booster pumps to get water onto the roof storage tanks.
Peak Pavilion Flats-Work on this contract was com- pleted by the end of January with the exception of the in- stallation of water storage heaters, medicine cabinets and lift. Part of the electrical fitting work, paint work and site clearance had still to be finished.
Queen's Gardens Flats-The rate of progress on these Government apartments has been exceedingly satisfactory and the buildings are expected to be completed by 31st May, 1949.
King's Park Flats-Tenders were called for in November, the contract awarded in December, and work commenced on 14th January.
Blacks Link Apartments—During December working drawings were prepared for fourteen one-bedroom apartments and eleven two-bedroom apartments to be erected at Middle Gap, Blacks Link, and tenders were received for this work during January.
Residence for H.H. The Chief Justice—A report, estimate and plans for a house for H.H. The Chief Justice at Wong Nei Chong were submitted during December, but instructions were received to investigate the development of Lysholt for this purpose before any decision was to be made.
In addition to the above work, sketch plans were started for the rehabilitation of rather extensive Government Quar- ters on Severn Road. Sketch plans for new apartments at Kowloon Tong were submitted for approval in January.

Government Offices, Workshops, etc.—Work on the tem- porary offices on the old Architectural Office site is progress- ing. Working drawings are being prepared for the office of the Health Authorities, and plans for the offices of the Garden Department are awaiting approval. Tenders for Supreme Court extensions were called for and received in January. Site clearance and foundation excavation for the new Furni- ture Workshop was begun in January, while sketch plans and estimates were completed for the Public Works Department Workshops and Garages.
Police Stations-Working drawings and details for Bay- view, Shaukiwan, Hunghom and Kowloon City Police Stations have been prepared during this period, while work on Gough Hill Police Station is progressing satisfactorily.
Planning of the Police Block Houses in the New Terri- tories is still proceeding and, after a list of suggested altera- tions were received from Police Headquarters, the revision of the plans is proceeding.
Repulse Bay Bathing Pavilions-Working drawings were prepared during November and December for the new Bathing Pavilions at Repulse Bay, and during January the detail draw. ings were completed.
Volunteer Headquarters-Sketch plans for the new Volunteer Headquarters were commenced in January.
Amongst the many other jobs which the Architectural Office performed during this period may be mentioned (a) plans for T.B. and Dental Clinics in Hong Kong and Kowloon, (b) T.B. Sanatorium in Kowloon, (c) King George V, King's College and Kowloon Junior Schools and (d) maintenance and rehabilitation work of which some thirty jobs were in hand.
