Air Conditioning

THE HONG KONG AND FAR EAST BUILDER

As all principal rooms are being air-conditioned with the latest Chrysler Airtemp System, it has made possible the use of comparatively low ceilings.

The system is designed to maintain a temperature of 80 deg. Fahrenheit dry bulb with relative humidity of 55. simultaneously with the reduction in temperature and humidity from the maximum conditions, fresh air amount- ing to one quarter of the total volume is brought in with each circulation. The air is circulated by two quiet

operating centrifugal-type fans. The air is further filtered from dust and pollen by the installation of the latest type all-metal washable and fire retardant filters. The air dis- tribution system is designed so as to provide control of supply within each room. The grilles are artistically designed and the dampers scientifically controlled.

All ducts have been skilfully concealed or integrated into the design of the structure so as to be inconspicuous. A completely automatic thermostat is built in and adjust- able from a suitable location.

Residence B

Although more modest than Residence A, the layout has been carefully planned to take advantage of the view, and for this reason has been placed well forward on the site with small but attractive terraces and lawn on two levels on the south and large drive-in and play area on the north. From Island Road the building will look more like a bungalow than a two-story house because of the natural high bank which lies between the building and the road. This will give additional privacy to the house.

Similar use of stone work inside and out ties this building in with Residence A, with the flat roof lending contrast and adding variety to the development.

Residences A and B were designed by Mr. K. Smith- Mitchell of the Metropolitan Land Co., Ltd.
