All buildings will be constructed with reinforced concrete frames and concrete floors. All external walls will be 9" thick and internal partitions are to be 42" brick. Ex- ternal and internal walls will be plas- tered and the floors cement rendered: Steel windows will be fixed through- out. Land cost $11 per sq.

The unit type of accommodation provided in all these schemes allows for combined living and sleeping quarters with a separate kitchen. closet and shower, and verandah. The different elevational treatment of the gallery type blocks forms an blocks interesting contrast to the with internal corridors, and the free use of different colours on the exterior of both types provides an additional interest of treatment not otherwise obtainable in buildings where low cost is of primary im- portance.

Contractors for the first blocks were Messrs. Cheong Lee Construction Co. and the approximate cost of a 6-person flat is $7,572 and a 4-per- son $6,515. without land. The es- timate for the whole scheme is $6,500,000.

Notes on completed buildings

The first part of the scheme at Healthy Village has been completed. and the buildings have now been occupied for about six months. Site formation work is proceeding on the second section and, in the meantime. the architect, Mr. T. S. C. Feltham, has been collecting information on the planning based upon observations made and records taken during the term of occupation so far.

Three important aspects have been particularly studied:-
