NG
G WORL WIDE EVANGELISTIC MISSJON
TURCH
The Ling Liang World-Wide Evan- gelistic Mission Church was dedicated on Sunday, 9th September, and takes its place amongst the many distinc- tive ecclesiastical structures already built or in course of construction in Hong Kong.
The congregation of this Church is not a large one and the funds avail- able for the construction of the build- ing were limited. It is therefore so nuch the greater credit to the ability of the architect that he ha: succeeded in producing a building of such sub- stantial proportions and fine appear-
ance.
The keynote of the design is sim- plicity, the aim being to produce an air of dignity and serenity appro-

priate for worship yet attaining the full practical objectives of the re- quirements of the Church in spite of the economical budget.
Probably the most outstanding achievement in connection with this
building is the full use that was nade of local materials, either pro- luced or in common use here. The general construction is of granite stone walls with wooden truss m ̈n- bers covered with corrugated cement asbestos roofing sheets, printed ex- ternally with green Cementone and lined underneath with Celotex sheet- ing in panels. The Celotex provides at one time insulation against the heat of the sun and decoration which conforms with the style of the in- terior appointments
The Church is designed to accom- modate six hundred persons, the seats being constructed of teak in natural finish simple yet appropriate in style. The comfort of the congrega- tion has been further considered in the use of non-actinic glass for all windows, a special type of glazing which is heat absorbing.
Deauty is a very personal expres- sion and is interpreted according to individual tastes. The beauty of this building is expressed in its restrain- ed appointments, in its simplicity of design, in the appropriateness of the materials used, and in its proportion and lines. The whole effect is res- trained and dignifiel, yet avoids the appearance of austerity.
