A well-known and popular Chinese actress, Pak Kwong, was named as one of the two opponents in an application for eviction which commenced before Mr. W. H. Latimer in the Tenancy Tribunal to-day. The proceedings were brought by Hoi Ying, owner of 12A Humphreys Avenue and residing on the first floor of the premises against Joseph Aloysius Wells Withers, tenant of the ground floor, and Pak Kwong, his alleged sub-tenant. After evidence, the Tribunal held that there was no sub-letting by Withers and dismissed the land- lord's application.

It is understood that Government is considering the question of handing over the job of erecting public bathing pavilions at Repulse Bay to private enterprise. If the scheme is approved, it is likely that a contractor will be asked to bear the building cost, and in return will be allowed to collect fees from the public on an approved scale.

That the development of Kowloon Inland Lot 33-49, situated at the junction of Nathan Road and Middle Road, had been entirely held up by the existence of a garage occupied by the Far East Motors, was the contention of Mr. Eldon Polter. K.C., when he appeared for the applicants (Soares- Alves Estates) for an order for possession before Mr. W. H. Laumer sitting in the Tenancy Tribunal yesterday. Counsel said that the area was in what might be called the hotel district of Kowloon and if no garage was there it would have been developed. Mr. Potter said that the applicants proposed to erect a 144-room hotel with shops, restaurant and a garage with a basement workshop on the site.

An Apology and An Explanation

Due to causes entirely beyond our control we have had to by-pass our November/December 1949 number and delay the issue of this, the January/February 1950 number.

This unfortunate hiatus will not affect our subscribers and ad- vertisers as our subscription rate is based upon six numbers and adver- tising contracts will be extended for one issue.

We apologize for our short- comings and regret any inconve- nience caused. We assure all our supporters that future numbers will be issued regularly and on

time.
