CONCRETE MIXER

Latest version of the ST concrete mixer, made by Millar's Machinery Co. Ltd., Bishop's Stortford, Herts., UK, has new features which have reduced its weight by 4 cwt.

These include a lighter spun-steel drum, now mounted on sealed, per- manently lubricated ball bearings, and a lighter engine cowling and H-section yoke. There is a choice of four steel wheels for site work or, for fast tow- ing, two pneumatic-tyred road wheels, a retractable tow bar and over-run brakes. A spring beam axle and coil compression springs replace the stand- ard mountings.

The 5T measures 10 ft. 9 in. long by 5 ft. 71⁄2 in. high by 3 ft. 7 in. wide.

Petter or Lister air-cooled diesel en- gines or an electric motor may be fitted.

CONCRETE SAW

Cutting depths of 3 in. with a 10 in. blade, 4 in. with a 12 in. blade and 5 in. with a 14 in. blade are possible with the Stow CS-51A lightweight con- crete saw. The unit weighs only 146 lb. or 182 lb. depending on whether a 6 or 84 h.p. petrol engine is used.

The power to cut is transmitted by a Poly-V belt. Either diamond blades or abrasive blades can be used.

A hinged guard can be pulled back to allow cutting right up to walls and a hose injects water on both sides of the blade for cooling. Depth of cut may be set by a handle-mounted indicator.

The makers are Stow Manufactur- ing Co., 627 Shear Street, Binghamton, New York, USA.

PORTABLE GENERATOR

Power for tools, pumps, indoor and outdoor lighting systems is provided by a portable generating set which weighs only 72 lb. and is capable of producing 1,250W at either 115V or 230V.

The set, known as the Minigen, is manufactured by E.P. Allam and Co. Ltd., Eastwood, Southend, Essex, UK. Its output comes from a stationary winding which eliminates the need for a commutator and brush-gear.

The Minigen is close-coupled to a Villiers four-stroke petrol engine which

has a single, permanently lubricated bearing at the end of the rotor shaft. The engine has a four-pint tank to pro- vide two hours continuous operation

on a full load. Direct or alternating current can be given simultaneously through the use of an auxiliary wind- ing.

Agents are Landis Bros., Hong Kong.

HYDRAULIC HOE

Though the newly introduced 366 is the smallest hydraulic hoe in the range made by Koehring Co., Mil- waukee, Wis., USA, it incorporates the heavy-duty features of the firm's larger machines.

Kormatic swing and traction pro- vide infinite speed range at full torque and four separate hydraulic pumps furnish full power for swing, traction, hoist, digging or extending. Two hand levers coupled with foot pedals con- trol all operations.

Maximum digging reach is 32 ft. 10 in. and digging depth is 20 ft. 4 in. The dimensions of the machine are: length of boom 19 ft. 3 in., overall overall length of crawlers 12 ft. 4 in.,

DECK FLASHING

Expandite Ltd., Chase Road, Lon- don, N.W. 10, have developed a new bridge deck flashing which maintains continuity of both the waterproofing membrane and the mastic asphalt over movement and construction joints in concrete bridge decks and elevated roadways.

The flashing is an extrusion of special heat-resisting rubber, tested to 500 deg. F, which has excellent resis- tance to degradation at the tempera- tures at which mastic asphalt is usually laid.

It is flat on one side and has dovetail ribs on the other which key into the asphalt. Agents in Hong Kong are Indo-China Trading Co. Ltd.
