pools. Additionally it is expected that the system of construction adopted will result in much faster completion of the project.
The 15-metre cantilver is believed to be one of the longest of this nature ever attempted. Basically the structural frame consists of two giant wall girders on top, supported by four giant columns and a strong central core. At the ends of the giant girders are the suspended blank walls which support the end of the floor beams. In this way only the top girders are acting as cantilevers and not the beams of every floor.
The blank walls of the penthouse and the blank end walls of the building serve as structural components and not just curtain walls in the conven- tional manner, while the central ser- vice core, housing the elevators, stairs and services, acts as a giant rigid shaft adequately reinforced and anchored to take up the main bulk of lateral resistance, supplemented by the four big columns. Floors are designed as rigid diaphragms acting on the horizon- tal plane to transfer lateral forces to these resisting vertical elements.
Floor-to-floor height is 3.10 metres in order to incorporate the maximum number of floors within the building height of 45.30 metres. Prestressed concrete will be used for the floors and for the blank end walls and giant wall girder, both of which will be post- tensioned.
