There is ample space for sun-bath- ing and Palm trees provide shade around the pools. The champion- ship and children's pools are divided by a natural terraced rock mound.
The championship pool, measur- ing 50
metres long and 20 metres wide with water depth varying from 4 to 12 feet allows staging of swim- ming events under international rules. Black-glazed tiles to mark the lanes for the guidance of swimmers can be seen clearly at the bottom of the pool. Nine starting platforms are mounted at both ends of the pool.
Non-slip one-metre and three metre diving boards are provided in a separate area so that diving can be carried on without interfering with general bathing or events in the other pools.
The children's pool with a depth of four and a half feet at the deep and two feet at the shallow end is equipped with a water wheel and
not
chute. The paddling pool water is re-circulated through the filter plant but is run to the reception tank for horticultural purposes.
The cafeteria accommodating over 300 persons is sited on the terrace immediately behind the tiered view- ing area which overlooks the pools, the whole park and down and over the Kai Tak airport runway to Lyemun Pass beyond.
Considerable difficulty has been experienced with the flood lighting of the pools as the light poles were restricted in height by the Kai Tak airport approach Regulations.
The second stage of the develop- ment of the Kowloon Tsai Park in- volves the contruction of a full-size football field with a running track and other facilities for athletic meet- ings, tennis courts, basketball courts. volleyball courts, soccer pitches, a children's playground and a library.
Actual time for completion of the work was 3 years.
