Piling began in September 1961 and the building was completed in May this year. A lengthy delay was caused by the last minute addition of a basement which called for plan alterations and new cost estimates.
A handsome building. it is set off by large protruding white balconies, a grey glass mosaic tile facing on the first. second and third floors of one side and by a glass curtain wall of the same height on the other.
The curtain wall is of heat ab- sorbing. glare reducing polished plate glass a quarter of an inch
thick.
The spandrels are glazed with amourclad. toughened glass cladding of the same thickness with coloured ceramic fired-on paint backing.
The brick infilling on the other floors are faced with Shanghai plaster.
The building is serviced by three lifts. one 200 feet a minute lift from the resident's entrance and two slower lifts, one a service lift for the flats and the other one for the store only.
The building was designed by B.C. Penman of Eric Cumine, F.R.I.B.A.
The main contractor was John Lok and Partners. Other contractors and suppliers included.
