to the central district of Hong Kong Beaconsfield House in Queen's Road and the Car Park in Garden Road were planned in conjunction with each other.
They occupy part of the site formerly occupied by historic Murray Parade ground a relic of less crowded days.

Outline planning was also re- lated to the then proposed new hotel (now the Hong Kong Hilton) at the vertex of the two buildings.
Special care was also taken to harmonise the car park with the old St. John's Cathedral. The end wall of the car park was covered in and left blank and unadorned to achieve this effect.
As no access was allowed to the Car Park from Garden Road a two-way entrance was made through Beaconsfield House at the expense of two of its bays, each two stories high. Headroom is sufficient for the highest commer- cial vehicles and fire appliances.
It is pleasing to note that, in this foliage starved Colony, both architects went to great trouble to preserve a number of old trees on the sites.
Because of its stature the Hilton Hotel is often incorrectly credited with the Car Park and the decora- tive fountain in the communal, triangular courtyard.
