Today's finest range of modern building glasses comes from
PILKINGTONS
Float glass is the biggest advance in glassmaking for more than a quarter of a century. This revolutionary method of producing a glass which has the best qual- ities of both Plate Glass and Sheet Glass was invented and developed by Pilking. tons, now using one of the biggest glass furnaces ever built. By casting a ribbon of glass on molten metal the Float process produces a glass with the distortion-free clarity of plate, but with even more bril- liance. Float has completely outdated Plate Glass. For quality in glazing always specify Pilkingtons' Float by name.
POLISHED WIRED GLASS -CLEARLY SAFE
For clear light with safety the glass to specify is Pilkingtons' Georgian, Polished Wired. This glass is crystal clear Polished Plate Glass with a light transmission factor of 80 per cent. And to give protection a wire mesh, electrically welded at each intersec- tion, is centrally embedded during manu- facture.
This is the glass to specify for partitions and door panels in public buildings, schools, offices and stores... wherever clear vision with protection is necessary.
DUAL PROTECTION
The presence of the wire-mesh does not make the glass any stronger, but does make
sure that if broken, dangerous pieces are not dislodged, as the wire holds the glass together. Only severe blows can sever the embedded wire,
Protection from fire is an important benefit of wired glass. If subjected to the heat of a fire, the glass may crack, but the wire holds its position preventing draughts and, therefore, retarding the speed of flames. Wired Glass has been officially tested as a fire-retarding material and is specified for this purpose by many authorities
One of the features of the Pilkingtons' range of glasses is the choice it invariably offers to the designer for similar functional roles. Thus where it is necessary to divide space light can be shared - safely - with a wide range of Pilkington toughened glasses. or with "Insulight" Glass Blocks. Each has its peculiar advantages - your glass merchant will advise you on which is best suited to your application
