The air-conditioned transit lounge. with an area of about 8.000 square feet. will have shops. a nursery, cocktail lounge. rest room for in- valids, and extensive toilet facilities. It will command a full view of the airfield.

The main attractions of this lounge will be a beautifully-designed mural to enable transit passengers to have a fleeting glimpse of Malaysian cul- ture and people and an garden where Malaysian flowers of different varic- ties, including orchids, will flourish in abundance

The arrivals block will be design. ed to allow free movement of pas sengers with minimum delay. Health. immigration, and customs adminis- tration are centrally placed at van- tage points for internal security.

and luxuriously-furnished building containing shops. a bank. a post office. telephone booths, formation bureau, and exhibits on the ground floor. The restaurant (equipped with hand and dance floor areas and with seating capacity for 250 people. cocktail lounge and bar. coffee and refreshment lounge. private reception room and main kitchen are located on the gallery floor.

Special features of this building are a reflection pool. special lighting and public seating arrangements.

Relatives and friends will not be allowed to go further than this pub- lic building except by separate routes to the waving gallery. which commands a panaromic view of the entire airfield.

The waving gallery. which is situated next to the apron control office. is part of a

separate rectan- gularshaped structure located just be hind the public concourse.

The gal sector of the new lery is the first passenger terminal to be fully com pleted.

The apron office. when it becomes operational next year. will enable controllers to keep a watchful eye on aircraft and vehicle movements at the airport for safety reasons.

Spacious car parks. capable of ac comodating 350 vehicles. have been laid out in front of the main public building. Palms and other decora- tive trees will be planted to help beautify the landscape in the pre- cincts of the Airport.

The new terminal is now fast tak- ing shape. Construction work is now making such rapid progress that there is even a possibility of it be- ing completed earlier than its ex- pected date in February next year.

The structures of the public con- course and the arrivals blocks have been completed. Brickwork. instal- lation of windows and flooring are now going ahead in full gear.

As for the departures wing, the structure or the transit lounge, which is located at the extreme end of this building. is already completed. The structure of ticketing offices and V.1.P.

rooms are now under con- struction.

The terminal building was design- ed by the Architects Division of the Public Works Department in Singa- pore. It is being built by P.W.D. contractor. Mr. Toh Seng Sit.

In designing this building. the P.W.D. had maintained close and continuous co-ordination with the Department of Civil Aviation and the Singapore Airline Operators' Com- mittee to ensure that it will mea- sure up to the highest possible standards.
