ALUMINIUM LOOK TO MALAYAN

UNIQUE in structure as far as buildings in Malaya are con- cerned. the recently completed $1.500.000 new headquarters of the Federation of Malaya Employees' Provident Fund in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya. Kuala Lumpur (hous- ing 230 officers of the Fund) has three features that are completely new in the country. They are:

A giant aluminium sun screen covering all four sides of the build- jug to reduce heat:

A square structure planned on a 5'C by 5' 0" module throughout in order to give more space and har mony in construction:

A central core for all services including air conditioning, lift. light- ing and telephone services.

The 26.500 square feet of alum- inium sun screens covering all four sides of the building is a Malayan idea. Not only that, it is also com- pletely manufactured locally from raw material imported from England.

The aluminium screens consist of of approximately quarter of a million pieces manufactured and anodised in Diethelm's factory in Singapore. These were railed to Kuala Lumpur and assembled there by Diethelm.

The screens with their individual parts assembled in a diamond shap- ed pattern give the building not only and good protection against sun glare but also an unusual and excit ing appearance.

Between the screen and the natural colour anodised fixed window frames is a cantilevered path approximately two feet six inches wide which pro- vides easy access to the large win- dows from the outside for cleaning purposes. Blue tinted heat-absorbing window glass is successfully applied to match the colour harmony of the entire building.
