The Teaching Rooms on the north-east corner of the building on the ground and first floors,
adopted for schools and colleges in England and America. It consists of a long centre portion with a shorter wing at each end. The building has been planned to comply with the rules and regulations of the Board of Education, England.
The College is designed to accommodate 144 men and women teachers-in-training: 48 will be taught in English, and 96 through the medium of Chinese. In addition, there is accommodation for 60 pupils from local schools, to whom special criticism lessons will be given.
The centre portion of the College contains the en- trance hall and staircase. Locker rooms, changing rooms with showers, common rooms for men and women, staff
rooms for men and women, a tutorial room, and stores. The western wing contains the gymnasium, nature study laboratory, handi- craft room, domestic science room, and art and music room. The eastern wing contains rooms for taking and observing practical teach- ing work, lecture rooms, geography room. library, reading rooms, Principal's room and general office.
The basement has air raid shelters. Around the building are turfed areas for out-door physical training; and a separate building contains the caretaker's quarters.
Lavatory accomodation is provided on all floors. The fittings were obtained from Messrs. Doulton & Co., Ltd. and Messrs. Shanks & Co., Ltd. The floors, roofs and staircases through- out are constructed of reinforced cement con- crete designed by Mr. S. E. Faber, A.F.C.
The steel was obtained from Australia and the cement from the Green Island Cement Co., Ltd. The windows are steel framed casements ob- tained from the Tung Tai Engineering Co., Ltd. The doors are of teak with locks from Messrs. J. Parkes & Sons, Ltd.
The floors of the rooms are teak parquet; and the floors of verandahs and lavatories, etc., are terrazzo tiles. The exterior plaster is of white marble cement.
The electric light installation has been carried out by the Electrical Department of the P.W.D., the water installation by the Water Works Office, and the gas in- stallation by the Hong Kong & China Gas Co., Ltd.
The building contract was let to Messrs. Cheong Hing Co. on March 30th, 1940. and completed in the specified contract time of ten months.
