It is a great advantage to have some extra light for the long mirror. If it is on the front of a wardrobe, a ceiling fitting immediately above, in such a position as to throw ample light on the space in front of the mirror, will answer the purpose quite well. There should be a separate switch for this light on the nearest wall. In The first consideration when ordering fittings for some cases a light can be placed actually on the wardrobe. the bathroom should be a choice of those which collect a If the mirror is fixed to the wall or mounted on its own minimum of dust and dirt and exclude moisture.

THE BATHROOM

Similar enclosing fittings to those recommended for the kitchen are most suitable, and as in the kitchen, it is better for any metal on the fittings to be enamelled to tone in with the room or to be chromium plated so that all corrosion may be avoided. Over- head lighting and local lighting at the mirror are necessities. In a larger room, lighting may also

be pro- vided over the bath, but in most modern bathrooms this is unnecessary. The lighting for the shaving mirror may take various forms; a bracket fixed immediately over the mirror, or a special shaving mirror made in the form of a cupboard which houses a 60-watt lamp behind the mirror, or mirrors with luminous borders, all these are satisfactory for their pur- pose, and which shall be used depends entirely on the individual's choice. In

the average bathroom, upwards of 100 watts should be employed for overhead lighting, and 40-100 watts for mirror lighting.

Many houses to-day have a small downstairs cloakroom. A small enclosing unit on the ceiling and an architectural lamp over the mirror are usually sufficient to provide entirely adequate lighting.
