Donald T. Walters, L.R.I.B.A.

Born in London in 1906, Mr. Donald T. Walters received his architectural training at the Polytechnic & Blackheath School of Art, and in 1930 was elected to the In-

stitute of Architects.

He joined the London County Council in 1930 and, during his four years with them was engaged on slum clearance work, mainly оп block dwelling construction. His next engagement was with the Minis- try of Works, Chief Architect's Division, where he remained for 7 years. Mr. Walters became a Registered Architect in the United Kingdom in 1943, and practis. ed in London and Swansea for 10 years. In 1952, he became a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Amongst the many interesting and im- portant schemes carried out during his private practice in the United Kingdom, were a factory for the processing of skins and the manufacture of fur coats, the first of its kind in Britain, the Belmont Estate, the Broadlawn Estate, the Bromley Hous- ing Schemes, St. John's Hospital Nurses Home at Blackheath, the Crossways Hotel, the Yorkshire Grey Hotel, the Dutch House Hotel and the Crayford Greyhound Racing & Sports Stadium.

In Hong Kong, whilst architect for the Army, he was responsible for the moder- nization of the British Military Hospital, including a new maternity wing, the first the Military had in Hong Kong. He also modernized various army schools, includ- ing those at Victoria, Stanley and Whit- field Barracks, and carried out the design for the Sek Kong Roman Catholic Church.
