Summary of Progress
The principal new works completed during the quarter under review were the New Government Offices (2nd Section. 1st Phase), Shek Kip Mei Resettlement Flats, Resettlement of fice at Homuntin, Sai Wan Cemetery. Communications Building for the Kowloon Police Headquarters, and extensions to Ta Ku Ling Police Station, Radio Sonde Station and Kowloon Junior School.
New works under construction are the Ellis Kadoorie School extension (99). Terminal Building. Kai Tak (95%). Tsan Yuk Hospital (85%), Disabled Destitute Camp, Lantao (85%), Queen Mary Hospital, Nurs- ing Quarters (75%), Western Police Station (50%), Tai Hang Tung Re-
settlement Flats (40%). Remand Home (35%), Chemical Laboratory, North Point (35%), C.E.M.E. Work shop (25%), Leighton Hill Flats (25%). Fanling Radio Depot (25%), and the Chater Hall Flats (15%).

were served by this department.
In addition, 132 inspections and reports were made in regard to structural stability of premises to be licensed by other departments; and 196 inspections and tests of drainage systems in various districts were
carried out.
CROWN LANDS & SURVEY OFFICE
A total of 61 applications for pur- chase of Crown Land (including ex- tensions to existing lots, exchanges. grants, etc.) were received by the Crown Lands Office. 14 lots were sold
by Public Auction realising $2,176,- 250.00. while 3 lots realising a sum of $119.080.00 were sold by Private Treaty. 4 free grants were made. 3 lots were granted in exchange. ex- tension of area was granted to 4 lots. and adjusted premium in respect of 1 lot was received.
Assistance in valuation matters was given to D. C. N. T. Commis- sioner of Resettlement and other Government Departments during the quarter.
DRAINAGE OFFICE
The sewerage and storm-water drainage systems of the Colony functioned satisfactorily during the quarter. 167 repair jobs were carried out including replacement of collaps- ed portions of a large old culvert in Centre Street.

BUILDINGS ORDINANCE OFFICE
During this period 499 plans cover- ing 949 buildings were received by this department. and 1228 plans for 2381 buildings were approved.
117 Domestic Permits were issued for 154 European type houses. 131 Chinese type houses. 11 staff quar- ters. 4 apartment buildings and 1 caretakers quarters. 6 additional storeys, and an extension of house.
37 Non-domestic Permits were issued for 2 schools and 1 school extension, 2 churches, 3 office build- ings. 6 workshops and factories and 1 factory extension, 11 stores and godowns. 1 garage, 2 theatres, 2 bathing sheds, and 1 clubhouse, one boys' club, one additional storey, one storage yard, one substation and one worshipping hall.
