facing the cutting, the rear wall, with windows set high above, surrounds two sides of the lawn, thus complete privacy for the occupants of the main building is assured and at the same time this part of the house is completely protected from the north winds.

Because of the difficulty of applying distempers on new walls in Hong Kong, no attempt was made to finish the walls in any but Chinese colour wash. However, a touch of pink to some walls and a touch of green to others gave a little different finish on which a colour scheme could be based. The external stippled plaster finished in white Snowcem rounds out the pleasant external appearance of the building.
