as a separate music room by clos- timated cost of $426,811.65, includ- ing the sliding doors installed at the proscenium opening.

Behind the covered playground are the students' lavatories, in- cluding a small shower room. The sanitary fittings are of various heights to suit the students of different ages in the two schools. There is also a small store room connecting the stage and the students' lavatories, which may be used as a changing room during theatrical performances.

Attached to one corner of the covered playground is a small flat for a caretaker; this contains two living rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen.

In orientating the main school building, the solar angle was care- fully worked out SO that the strong west sunlight expected in the summer will not enter the classrooms before 4 p.m., when normal classes are over.

Reinforced concrete construc- tion is used throughout the build- ing, with cement hollow block screen walls. The felt membrane roof is laid on 1" thick Heraklith board for insulation. External plaster is rendered with Snowcem. Spatterdash and whitewash are used for the ceilings. Mosaic floors are laid in the entrance hall and on

the front staircase, rubbed grano dadoes with

dadoes with 50% white cement added. The classrooms all have asphalt tile flooring.

Building commenced on 8th Sep- tember, 1952, and was completed on 7th February, 1953, at an es-

ing the electrical fittings, and fix- tures such as work benches, etc.:

works out to $1.48 per cu.ft. The the structure, excluding fittings, plans were prepared by the Archi-

tectural Office of the Public Works Department.
