feet to about 15 ft. Very hard driving was necessary, but with the exception of less than half a dozen piles, the piles were driven down its full length. No damage to the piles that noticeably affected the watertightness of the cofferdam has been found.

Driving of curves. On two occa- sions the sheet piling had to be driven
in curves. To leave the existing well which supplies water to Cecil Hotel and Chung Tin Building outside the cofferdam nineteen sheet piles had to form a double curve of 9 ft. radius. Hong Kong Technical College
(Continued from page 19) On the important side of extra curi- cular
activities our students are at many disadvantages. The entire staff is not only much under strength but has a heavy obligatory programme of evening lecturing duties leaving little. or no time for the social side. A Students' Union has however been formed and has held one or two func- tions; members of the Building Class who are now leaving us have been prominent in its formation. As from next term one room will be kept free from evening classes for extra reading or students meetings and it is hoped that when new wings are added in 1953 a proper students commo11 room, library, and reading room will be in- cluded.
The filling in of Causeway Bay to form playing fields has been noted with pleasure, and it is hoped that when an allocation is made the needs of this College will not be overlooked.
I would like to conclude this report by extending my thanks to the Staff without whose loyal co-operation it would have been impossible to over- come the difficulties of the rehabilita- tion period, and reach the standard which the Building Department has achieved today.
