The Cosmo Club is an international gathering place with a limited but select membership. The club rooms are housed in a very ohl building on Pottinger Street, and although the premises are very commodious for the limited membership, they were, up to recently, almost dingy in appearance and appointments.

However the club committee decided to have the club rooms completely re- decorated and refurnished, Kul com- mission Mrs. Irma Marsh, of Johu T. Marsh & Co., not only to furnish and install specially designed Tropicaire furniture throughout the club premises, but to replan the entire decur and supervise the work.

CLUB

The original finish of the walls and ceilings was completely stripped down and new distemper in soft shades of green and ivory applied as the main background. The entire rear wall was hand-painted with stylised representa tions of rattan aud bamboo groves shaded to make the pattern appear in relief.

The centre of interest of the entire scheme is concentrated in and around the bar. High-lighting the arrange- ment around this part of the club is the band-painted symbolic panel paint ed in bold colours by Mrs, Marsh her- self. The high curved rattan screen which masks the entraueeway and the lower one which separates the bar from the rest of the room, are fitted with flower boxes from which the green leaves

of various species of plants form a restful and harmonious pattern. The rattan furniture is ar-

ranged in intimate groups consisting of low-slung settees covered with linens in solid colours supplemented by several comfortable armchairs around low coffee tables of different shapes and designs.

The old lighting fixtures were all replaced with new fittings; the ceiling lights utilise fluorescent tubes in glass troughs; wall brackets of the semi- concealed type throw splashes of light

niches along the wall, and

in the columns add some odd touches in un- expected places.

The use of Rattan Furniture in а commodious area with the tastefully blended background of colour and light, has resulted in a most pleasant effect of eoolness and quiet, an atmos- phere which members of the club can enjoy throughout the year but parti- enlarly during the long trying summer months we have in Hong Kong.
