HONG KONG BUILDING CENTRE

The Building Centre ut Aberdeen has been patronized to a very encourag- ing extent since the official opening on May 17th last, and to those interest- ed in constructional work and modern home planning and equipment a visit will prove an edifying, instructive and pleasurable experience indeed,

To Hong Kong, with its unusually extensive programme of commercial, industrial and domestic building and modernization, the Building Centre will no doubt prove a welcome institution, displaying as it does a comprehensive range of materials and equipment that

are essentials to the high building standards demanded to-day,

The Centre, which has been planned and organized by the Hong Kong Building Service Ltd. with the enthu- siastic co-operation of leading Hong Kong firms, is housed in a new stric ture on the main highway Island Road situated between Aberdeen village and the Shouson Hill and Deep Water Bay

listricts.

The construction of the building it- self exemplifies the uses to which high quality materials available in Hong Kong can be put, and includes both

imported items and local productions of proved efficiency. It is a plain rein- forced concrete structure, the walls being of Vi-Con hollow rouerete block laid in cement mortar, the exterior is plastered with ordinary cement plas- ter finished and decorated with Snow- cem of the Green Island Cement Co., Ltd. This Snoweem decoration has been most attractively executed in various colours of which a wide range is avail able. The steel windows are of the standard type used for commercial buildings and are manufactured by Williams & Williams Ltd. for whom Messrs. Davie, Boag & Co., Ltd, are the local agents. As a part of the ex- terior design, electric lighting has been utilised to illuminate not only the specialVi-Con trade mark from which the name of the building is derived, but also that of the Builting Centre" which is permanently placed in relief lettering on the canopy which extends over, and forms part of, the main entrance way. This special elec- trical work was carried out by thu Jardine Engineering Corporation Ltd., who were also responsible for the whole electrial installation throughout the building. They also supplied and installed the Atlas fluorescent light fittings in Регерех which form such a novel, attractive and efficient lighting feature of the Building Cen-

tre.
