Looking towards the fireplace in the Chancellor's study
on the living room have been symine. trically positioned on either side of the doorway, and the oval-shaped indirect lighting trough in the ceiling, all tend to emphasize this feature of the
room.
The study on the west side of the living room, which has an additional doorway on to the entrance hall, very emphatically reflects the personality of the owner. It has an individuality and a warmth engendered first by the
full panelling of the walls, by the bookshelves which extend practically to the ceiling; by the gallery of paint- ings and portraits which entirely cover one wall; and finally, by the Chinese curios and bric-a-bras, obviously the result of the Chancellor's many years of intimate association with China and well-known Chinese personalities, which find an appropriate place throughout the room, but principally ou the shelves flanking one sile of the fireplace.
In addition, the very excellent pantry and kitchen, the two-car garage. and
the generous servants' quarters which are set round an open yard, a goodly portion of which is covered, complete the layout of the ground floor.
There are five bedrooms on the up- per floor, the master bedroom being situated over and corresponding with the dining room below. Three of these bedrooms have attached bathrooms whilst the other two bedrooms share one large complete bathroom between them. Not only are built-in closets provided for each bedroom, but a large store-room and separate sewing room have been worked into the design on this floor.
The external appearance of the building with its facing of simulated granite is very imposing, set as it is amidst wide lawns and ample driveway curving from the wrought iron gate- way in a wide sweep to the house.
