cut and fill, into three terraces. the lowest of these is the end of the road, and on the highest terrace the drink stalls. refreshment area and telescope stand. The two upper ter- races have been turfed, and even- tually low. scuptured trees and shrubs will be planted there.

At the north-west corner of the site. flanking the upper terrace, a 54 feet long reinforced-concrete re- taining wall was built. This was in- tended to prevent earth erosion and to increase the area of the top ter- race. The wall will also act as a foundation for a future brick wall when more stalls and shelters are re quired and the existing buildings have to be extended.

Flanking the lower terrace are low (9 inches high) brick retaining walls to prevent erosion and also to give protection to pedestrians. These low walls were preferred to railings as they will not obstruct the view and can also be sat on. besides being more in keeping with the natural landscape.

The existing road has been widen. ed to 25 feet and 3 feet 6 inches
