The various spurs of the site are to be reduced to a series of platforms of varying elevation, the highest being 440.00 and the lowest 30.00. Most of the platforms have been planned to follow the original con- tours and very little filling will be needed. It is proposed that the middle terrace will accommodate the University Headquarters: the teach- ing buildings of the two colleges with their student hostels will be sited on

while the higher platforms,

the academic and administrative staff quarters will be on lower terraces towards the north. The Vice-Chan- cellor's Lodge, residences for the college presidents and university faculty houses are to be built on the north-western part of the site. It is considered desirable to locate these houses for the important personnel of the University and Colleges away from the University Headquarters and the college teaching blocks.

A large flat area close to the rail- way, with a level of 75.00, is desig- nated as the University Sports Field. It is conveniently located with regard to the three colleges. Though much of this area (14.5 acres) is filled ground, it is suitable for playing fields and sports activities. This plat- form will provide sufficient space for three soccer pitches, a 400 metre track and a number of tennis courts and basketball courts. A Central Sports Building housing indoor play areas, changing facilities, Athletic/ Association Offices, etc. is proposed on solid ground to the west. addition to the University Sports Field, each college will have its own recreation grounds adjoining its staff quarters with provision for tennis. basketball games, etc. Recreation spaces are also available within the areas for students' hostels.

The site adjoins the land occupied by Chung Chi College, one of the cons- tituent colleges of the University, and it will thus be possible for the whole university development area to be in- tegrated.
