LUXURY HOTEL FOR SINGAPORE
M$9,500,000 hotel project is proposed at Orchard Road. Singapore, by Messrs. Far Eastern Publishers, on a site between the East Asiatic Co. motor showroom and Hotel Singapura.
Designed by architects Booty, Edwards & Partners, the 17-storey building will contain a hotel of 185 bedrooms with commercial premises totalling 25,000 sq. ft. suitable for department stores or shopping arcades. The 3-storey commercial section will be interlinked by escala-
tors.
The hotel will provide high stan- dards of luxury, will be completely air-conditioned, and will have special emphasis on landscaping and decora tions to reflect tropical living and local atmosphere. It is intended that the hotel will be operated by a

Hotel facilities will include a coffee lounge. bar-lounge and re- staurant, a grill room, and a land- scaped roof garden around a swim- ming pool.
The proposal has been granted preliminary approval by the plan-
ning authorities, and has now been submitted for a full planning con- sideration.
According to the project schedule, site and foundation works will begin in September, 1963. The entire project is planned for occupation by early 1965.
