new building consisting of additional dormitory space and ancillary amenities was completed and opened for the Sin Tin Toa Home for the Aged at Sheung-Wo- Che, Shatin, New Territories. in December 1962.

With a coverage of some 3.700 square feet the 3-storeyed structure was put up at a cost of $184.000, $100,000 of which was given by the Royal Hongkong Jockey Club. A marble plaque commemorating the opening of the new premises was unveiled by Mr. D. Benson.

Besides three spacious dormitories, one on each floor. a large living room is provided on the ground floor. while ample lavatory. kitchen and laundry facilities are available for the occupiers. Wide balconies com. manding a panoramic view of the surrounding hills run throughout the length of the building.

The several buildings serving as homes for the aged people are situat

ed within extensive grounds laid out in the pattern of a Chinese landscape garden.

With this extension the Aged Home comptrollers expect to house addition of some 150 new inmates.

The new building which is of re inforced cement construction was designed by Mr. John S. Moraes.
