Construction work was started in September 1956 with the Interna. tional Finger as the first phase of construction. This was completed in June 1958 at a cost of Pesos 1,397,893 (HK$2,500,000). This finger serves as a waiting station for

the arrivals and departures of pas- sengers, for customs clearances and passport examination.

The second stage was started in January 1958 as a part of the main structure to accommodate the in- creasing patrons of the expanding demand for air travel.

In this building almost all the materials used were locally made with the exception of the power transformers, air circuit breaks, primary and main

and main wires,

gear, aluminium doors, plumbing fixtures and others which were not available in the local market nor produced by local manufacturers.

For the first time in Philippine building construction an escalator will be installed.

Volume of concrete poured was 8.400 cubic metres (11,000 cubic yards). Reinforcing bars were used with a total weight of 120.000 tons. Conduit pipes were installed to total length of 113,550 lineal feet.
