Plastic weekend house
steel feet, its body being of polyester plastic strengthened with glass fibre. The wall cladding consists of 16 segments which can easily be trans- ported; the total weight is 1,000 kilogrammes.
The interior is fitted out like an aircraft. Plastic seats can be converted into beds and a lamp is fitted into every arm. The useful area of the house is about 165 sq. ft. Doors operate with the same system as in air-planes. When pulled down the front door can be used as stairs. A heating and ventilation system is installed under the floor.
San Francisco clinics and car park scheme
Some 26 medical departments and 700 cars will be housed in a multi-level structure to be started soon at the University of California Medical Centre, San Francisco.
The six-floor parking structure will be dug into the sloping site, which has an elevation differential of 100 ft., and this will be surmounted by the nine- storey clinics building. A central service core in the clinics building will be surrounded by a 35 ft. clear span clinics area on all floors.
The concrete core structure is the major resisting element for seismic forces and the 35 ft. clear span

is a coffer slab with the coffer exposed at the peripheral corridor area cantilever. For the parking structure. a concrete-clad steel column and in situ slab construction will be used, with peripheral spandrel beams to resist seismic forces.
