An interesting block of apartments, to be known as Manly Mansion, is in the process of construction on a site on Prince Edward Road adjoining the Diocesan Boys' School.
Its interest lies in the awkward shape

of the site, and the ingenuity the it was found possible to plan for the architect has exercised in his use of it. accommodation of twelve or thirteen On the roughly triangular site the cars under the building at the ground. design provides for three apartments floor level. on each of five upper storeys, with the main entrance lobby and car ports on the ground floor.
Though of necessity, some of the Tooms are of unusual shapes, the architect has successfully avoided the too eccentric and all the accommoda- tion is fully usable.
Each of the apartments contains a large combined living and dining room, three bed rooms, a bathroom, kitchen, servant's room and lavatory, and utility balcony. Each of the two apartments overlooking Prince Edward Road has in addition a verandah to the living room and a small trunk
room.
The three apartments on each floor are grouped around a staircase and hall located centrally in the south-west elevation of the building.
The planning was additionally com- plicated by the existence of a large retaining wall and stone revetment along the south-west boundary of the lot; despite these obstacles, however,
