The start of the 1957-58 Academic their degrees:- Year has seen a full complement of BACHELOR OF ARCHITECTURE new students enroll for the First Year Second Class Honours and exercises in sketching, use of instruments, washes and shadow pro- jections, have proceeded along with design problems and building construc- tion lectures. In the Senior Years an active beginning was made with a variety of one-week sketch schemes covering design and partial working drawings.
Planning of the new town at Tai-po is well under way, the Fifth Year having carried out field surveys and investigations into the distribution and densities of population, traffic prob. lems, public utilities, the present posi- tion of education, health, transport, and other services, and have held a number of seminars where recom- mendations and assumptions have been discussed prior to the preparation of the final planning scheme.
Main schemes now in hand for the other Senior Years are а Public Aquarium and Fisheries Research Unit for the Fourth Year; Colour Television Laboratories (an exercise in design in space and form) for the Third Year; whilst the Second Year have a Sports Pavilion with full working drawings.
The Fiftieth Congregation of the University was held in the Loke Yew Hall on October 7, presided over by H.E. the Governor, Sir Alexander Grantham, G.C.M.G., M.A., LL.D., as Chancellor. The following graduates of the Faculty of Architecture received

The evening course in Architectural Practice and Procedure offered by the Department of Extra Mural Studies and conducted by Mr. W. G. Gregory, B.Arch., A.R.I.B.A., has had a very good response. The course is designed to assist candidates who are preparing for the examination in Professional Practice and Practical Experience, set by the Building Authority for the authorization of Architects. Thirty candidates are taking the course the maximum possible.
Also through the Department of Extra Mural Studies, a Course of twelve illustrated lectures on Elements of Western Architecture is being con- ducted by Professor R. Gordon Brown,
